International Society for Bipolar Disorder

Date: 31 December 2008

The objectives of the chapter are: 1. To enhance the services available to our patients 2. To increase the awareness among Malaysians about the illness 3. For exchange of ideas on trends of management of the disease 4. To increase the knowledge of Malaysian psychiatrists about the illness 5. To perform ground-breaking research on the disorder It has been agreed that the chapter will be initiated as a part of the MPA under its’ umbrella. Advantages of setting up this chapter would be as follows: 1. Writing articles for ISBD Global which is the Society Newsletter. 2. Be a part of the main body’s committee which includes
  • Newsletter Editorial Advisory Committee
  • Committee Membership Committee
  • Fundraising Committee
  • Education Committee
  • Nominating Committee
  • 3. Publication in the Journal of Bipolar Disorders which is the official journal for the Society. It is considered a high impact journal. We believe that the way forward is to affiliate ourselves with a distinguished organization like ISBD and we think it would be beneficial to all parties concerned in terms of sharing new ideas and cooperating in projects globally. We also believe that the potential for such collaboration is tremendous. With that, I would like to take this opportunity to invite all the psychiatrists and trainees who are interested in Bipolar Disorders to join this chapter. However, each chapter member is RECOMMENDED to be a member of the main ISBD body. The membership fees are USD 120/ annum or USD 220/ 2 years or USD 1500 for life membership. Anyone interested to become members can contact me via email at To give a brief summary, The International Society for Bipolar Disorders is a not-for-profit organization with administrative offices located at 4601 Baum Blvd, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, 15213.
